Relationships can’t happen without communication, and our God is relational. He knows us and wants to be known by us. He is the God who speaks.
Throughout His story, we see our Father talking to His kids. Whether in an audible voice or a gentle whisper, or through the godly advice of others, God speaks. And His words are always worth listening to.
As you explore in this series the Old Testament stories of people who listened (and didn’t listen) to God’s voice, may you and the kids you lead tune your ears to the kind voice of our loving Father.
His words are always worth listening to.
Series Invitation
I remember hearing my daughter crying and rushing to her side to speak words of comfort. The look on her face was one of distress, but when she heard my words, I could see peace come upon her.
My daughter knew her father’s voice, and when she heard me speak, she listened because she knows I love her. As we enter into this series, I invite you to listen for the voice of God. I invite you to remove distractions and focus on hearing Him. God loves you, and His voice— while powerful—is also one of comfort.
There’s power in knowing that the Creator of the universe speaks to us, that the Creator of the universe sent His Son to die for us and impart His Spirit on us. How does knowing these things make you feel?
Through the stories of Eli, Samuel, Jeroboam, Rehoboam, and Elijah, we’ll learn that God speaks to us, provides wise counsel, and encourages us.
This is more than just four lessons; it’s an opportunity for you to hear from God and excite wonder in the lives of kids. In the words of our Word of Wonder, “Come near to God, and he will come near to you” (James 4:8a).
