Taken from their homes and relocated to foreign places, God’s people find themselves in strange and unusual situations as exiles with different customs, languages, and ways of worship. Even in peculiar lands, God’s people are never alone. He is always working behind the scenes.
Sometimes He even shows up on the scene to speak to His messengers and give aid in perilous times. This series will explore how God works, calls, protects, and stays with His people. God’s promise to never leave His people rings true even for us today.

Did you know the U.S. Surgeon General recently issued a new advisory? While many previous warnings were about the use of substances like tobacco, this recent advisory was about the effects of loneliness. In his opening letter of the advisory, he relates that vast numbers of people of varying ages and walks of life believe they must shoulder life’s burdens by themselves.
I believe it is within that feeling of loneliness where God steps in and shows Himself as the God who gives calling and purpose, who is always working for us, who protects us, and who is always with us. These truths are part of the cure to this loneliness epidemic.
Our Word of Wonder for this series reminds us of Moses’ farewell speech in Deuteronomy 31:6, when he tells the Israelites not to be afraid or discouraged because God will never leave or forsake them. It’s the promise that we are not alone, that we do not have to shoulder life’s burdens by ourselves, and that God will be with us.
As you teach kids about God’s calling to Isaiah, His ever-present help in the book of Esther, His presence in the fiery furnace, and His protection in the lions’ den, know that the truths you teach are true for you as well. You are never alone. God is with us.
