Easter is approaching, and fast!
The Easter celebration weekend can be a wonderful time in the world of children’s ministry. As it’s typically one of the highest attended weekends of the year, it can be a lot of pressure for leaders, with lots of visitors and high expectations.
So how can we make it successful without wearing ourselves down?
5 Ways to Prepare for Easter
Plan
Lean into your curriculum as you plan for Easter. What are the lessons you want to use to build up to the weekend? And what special activities or differences do you want to include as visitors fill your ministry? Is there an event you can use that comes with your curriculum or will you plan one separately?
Each of these questions are important to ask and answer as you plan. Knowing what you want to do will help you plan for who you need to help.
Plan who you will have serve and where! You may need a few extra hands on this weekend, so make sure to plan accordingly.
Make sure that the gospel is clear, and that there is opportunity for questions and worship response.
Communicate & Delegate
We all know this! But sometimes, and maybe more often than we would each like to admit, we try to do it all. Our ministries (and our hearts) can’t survive like this.
Communicate with clarity the plan you have built. Equip your people for what you’ve planned and delegate responsibilities accordingly.
Then, trust them to lead.

Give Your Best
Within ourselves, we can’t keep our ministries running. We need God! Lean in and abide in Him as you give your best to Him and your ministry.
When you lean in, He shines! And the best way to make a good impression is when you are moving with God. Easter is often the first, and many times the only, opportunity we get at making a positive first impression, so lean in over and over again!
Keep God Central
Egg hunts, crafts, fun games, and prizes are GREAT. Keep them. But make sure they each have a God-centered purpose.
Amidst all our creativity, we can sometimes muddy the message of Easter. Make sure that the gospel is clear, and that there is opportunity for questions and worship response.
Kids deserve to know who they were created to be! And how we all get to live in our identity as God’s kids because of the work of Jesus—from living a sinless life, to dying on the cross, to defeating death as He rose again. His message is one of freedom. Let’s make sure kids get to hear it!
Worship
Easter is for you.
It’s for you, your leaders, your church body, your community—it’s for each of us. The good news of Jesus is for you. Don’t forget to take time to sit in His presence as you share that very good news with kids.
And remember, He’s still risen. Hope lives on and has final victory. Hallelujah!
