Every week, as you lead children and your teams, you are surrounded by God’s wonder. The people around you are His image bearers who are made to be known, loved, and led by Him.

This very truth is so easy to miss in the middle of all the work that needs to be done, but it’s so important to remember. Are there ways that we, as leaders, can be more intentional about engaging God’s wonder with our volunteers?

The people around you are His image bearers who are made to be known, loved, and led by Him.

Here are 4 simple ways to begin identifying and engaging the wonder of God with your volunteer team:

  • Get Personal
  • Love Well
  • Listen Expectantly
  • Celebrate Often

Get Personal

Affirm your children’s ministry volunteers as individuals and as a group. The personal relationship you and other leaders have with each person on your team is so important.

Take time to see them, love them, and value them. You can do this through prayer, notes, texts, you name it. Even if these all aren’t directly from you, make sure someone is doing this for each person on your team on a regular basis.

Love Your Children’s Ministry Volunteers Well

We’re called to love as Jesus loves. How well are we living out 1 Corinthians 13? Do we show patience and kindness? Do we make space for help and valuing others’ input?

We can show our love in a lot of ways, but we should live in love as we serve in our ministries as well. It’s so important that we don’t only focus on the what, but the why and who as well. Many times our actions within relationships shine for Jesus more than our words ever could.

Listen Expectantly

As we lead, we must first follow. Listen for where the Holy Spirit is leading you and your team. Give your team opportunities to share what they are hearing as well. Remember, we are all lead by the same Spirit. He works in and through each one of His followers.

Be expectant for what the Lord is doing. And remember, you don’t have to tackle every suggestion that comes your way. Ideating is great, but you can only focus on a few things and do them well. Allow the Lord to lead you and your team in that!

God’s wonder is everywhere. When you look for it as a team, you will find it more and more.

Celebrate Often

Take time to hear stories and celebrate with your children’s ministry volunteer team at how God is at work in your ministry and in your lives! When you celebrate often, your team begins to look for how God is moving more and more.

Share these wins inside your ministry and outside. Let the whole church celebrate with you!
